The smallest Mac from Apple - Mac mini has got a well deserved hardware refresh. The new Mac mini would sport a slimmer aluminum unibody enclosure with a faster Intel Core 2 Duo processor and better Nvidia GeForce 300M series graphics.
New refreshed Apple Mac mini is 1.4-inch thick, which is comparatively 0.6-inch thinner than the previous generation Mac Mini (2.0-inches). This new smallest Mac mini integrates a power supply and thereby eliminates the need for a power adapter. Apple has made a number of enhancements in terms of internal hardware too.
Now, the Mac mini comes with 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB shared L2 cache. We wish Apple would have used the new 32nm Clarkdale Core i3/i5/i7 processors in the new Mac Mini. By default, Apple packs in 2GB DDR3 RAM (upgradable to 8GB) and 320GB SATA 5400RPM HDD. For better graphics, Apple has replaced Nvidia GeForce 9400M graphics chip with 48 stream processors bearing Nvidia GeForce 320M integrated graphics chip.
AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wi-Fi networking compatible with 802.11 a/b/g and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR is integrated. Apart from that, the new Mac mini integrates an HDMI port and an SD card slot - both the features have been included for the first time in Mac mini. Besides that, the Mac mini has four USB 2.0 ports and one mini DisplayPort. The Mac mini includes 8x slot-loading SuperDrive for burning data on optical discs.
Apart from slimming down the body, even the maximum continuous power consumption has been brought down to 85W from 100W in previous generation models.
At this moment, the Apple Store offers new Mac mini models at a price starting at $699 in US. In India, Apple will sell Mac mini at a suggested retail price of Rs. 44,900 including levy and VAT.
